Melon Salad with Balsamic Vinegar recipe

I made this simple and delicious salad in 20 minutes and served it on my Minimalist dinnerware. It's got a great balance of tart and sweet.
 Melon Salad with Balsamic Vinegar
Ingredients:
1 cantaloupe melon
1 honeydew melon
1 cucumber, skinned, thinly sliced
1/2 red onion, thinly sliced, cut into strips
1 T fresh mint leaves, diced
1 T fresh basil, diced
1- 2 T flavored balsamic vinegar (I used lemon balsamic but pomegranate, raspberry or other fruity Balsamic vinegars will be equally yummy)
Cut melon balls from fresh melons and add everything else. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

Urban Rustic bowls, casseroles, and vases

Today's kiln load has Birds Nest casseroles, large and small Urban Rustic bowls, and frog lidded vases and a gorgeous spiral vase set.

Dinnerware orders will begin shipping next week. Thanks for your patience! The pieces are absolutely gorgeous.

We had company and parties all weekend and it took me a few days to get back into my work rhythm. I am a classic introvert and loves people but need my reflective time alone to recharge. Finding a nice balance keeps my life full. Hope you find time for all the many things and people you love this week!

Birds Nest casseroles and keepsake boxes are back at last!

This week's firing had some beautiful Birds Nest casseroles and keepsake boxes, love bird luminaries, white trays, large poppy bowls and a new mushroom box. I will list the mushroom box tomorrow after photographing it- everything else is stocked up. I have a lot of dinnerware orders, which will take halk of each week's kiln load for several weeks so I have a bit less open stock but I'm blessed with great firings so the selection should remain pretty decent.

I'll have more casseroles next week along with large flower bowls and large Urban Rustic handbuilt bowls.

Yesterday I went to my first NC Clay Club meeting. It was so exciting to meet some of out area's most talented ceramic artists. These creative connections are important and I've missed that from my life recently so I will attend every monthly meeting that I can. I hope you find time to seek out the friendships that nurture your creative soul this week. And time to make something that pleases you.

Back in stock!

New kiln load today: Owl keepsake boxes, Mama and Baby bird bowls, faceted mugs, Organic Soul bowls, and a new dinnerware set in Modern Lace are available now. Nesting bowl sets and casseroles are in progress and will be available by week's end. These have sold out so quickly! You can custom order the one you want if you like.

It's been a very busy week, with a pace almost as intense as pre-Christmas. My studio hours roll by so enjoyably while listening to books on tape. My recent fav was What The Dog Saw by Malcolm Gladwell. I especially enjoyed his thoughts on late bloomers in the arts; people who did their best work later in life. I sure can relate to that. It took me a long time to fully follow my own aesthetic, and to appreciate how much skill the years have bestowed.

Thanks for all the wonderful emails letting me know how much you enjoy your pieces. It makes me smile every time.

River Journey dinnerware now available

After 3 months of revisions I have the 2013 River Journey dinnerware available for order. This has had a wait list of up to 9 months before, so order ASAP if you are able to. This year I changed the textured bottom from vines to a spiraling swirl. This pattern is deep enough to accent with glaze rather than an oxide, which makes the plates stronger. I also think it brings the drama of water swirl around  rocks. It's quite beautiful!

I am glazing today so look for Birds Nest casseroles, Pea Pod casseroles and Garlic Sprout casseroles by Saturday. I know they've been sold out for weeks. I will also have a limited amount of poppy bowls in the popular Red and Ice Blue. I make 8-16 of these every week, so please custom order the ones you want when they are sold out. You will get the best selection of the next kiln load.

Urban Rustic Series

My favorite thing to do lately is to create texture in clay, and then layer the pieces into nesting bowl sets or dinnerware. I've pressed everything in the house and garden into clay, and now I'm scrounging through Home Depot eyeballing the filters, backs of tiles, and rows of hardware. I plan to glaze these sets in my Organic Soul pattern of cobalt blue, lime green, and turquoise. These won't be ready for 2 weeks. The Urban Rustic series is a minimalist exploration of the woodland rustic mode I've created for several years.

Tomorrow I am glazing a load of noodle bowls, owl bowls, and love bird bowls. Everything else in it- the flower bowls and dinnerware, is already ordered. I like to have at least half of a week, or half of a kiln load, that is not ordered, so I can make what I want to in the moment.

Thanks for visiting my new website! I've been working on this all month and am excited to take this new step!
