I have flower bowls, even more nesting bowls, casseroles and Modern Lace trays in progress. I'm also testing new glazes and have some exciting results. You will see some on the new vases this week. 

Berries are beginning to ripen here now, and my favorite farmer's market is brimming with local produce. The days are hot but Asheville evenings bring a welcome breeze. I've been working mornings, taking a break in the afternoon, and then working early evenings. Its nice being able to work in a rhythm that feels right.

If you've been waiting for a Birds Nest casserole or Urban Rustic bowl, you are in luck! I unloaded a beautiful kiln full of casseroles and Urban Rustic bowls. I made a nesting set of Ice Blue nesting bowls for a wedding registry and fell in love with them! It's my new favorite thing. I also added Autumn Harvest bowls and a nesting bowl set in Neon Sea.

I have more flower bowls in stock that will be ready in about a week. I'm also experimenting with large hand built pieces and some fluted vases, so there will be a few new things coming.

It's been a very busy week, with a pace almost as intense as pre-Christmas. My studio hours roll by so enjoyably while listening to books on tape. My recent fav was What The Dog Saw by Malcolm Gladwell. I especially enjoyed his thoughts on late bloomers in the arts; people who did their best work later in life. I sure can relate to that. It took me a long time to fully follow my own aesthetic, and to appreciate how much skill the years have bestowed.

 Thanks for all the wonderful emails letting me know how much you enjoy your pieces. It makes me smile every time.

 Back from Jazz Fest, I went straight to work and got a very fine load of nesting bowl sets, flower bowls, red poppy bowls, large Urban Rustic bowls, and Birds Nest casseroles. We also had 17 orders to pack and ship. Phew!  Ken used an extra vacation day from his job so we could get them all sent for Mothers Day. It was so worth it. We danced and ate all the gumbo, po'boys, crawfish, oysters and beignets we could hold. There is no friendlier place than New Orleans. We heard many heart rending stories of Katrina contrasted with the exuberant pride that the city is recovering. 

I will have another kiln load mid week next week. Look for more nesting bowl sets, large and small Urban Rustic bowls, and owl bowls.

My kiln load this week has Birds Nest casseroles, an extra large Urban Rustic bowl,a Modern White platter,  and the small Mama and Baby Bird bowls that sold out so quickly last week. I also have Owl keepsake boxes and a new Birds Nest keepsake box- watch for it late on 4/30. 

We are going to the New Orleans Jazz Fest this weekend, and will return on 5/5. I will upgrade to Priority any in stock Mothers Day gifts that are purchased this weekend and will ship by 5/6.

 I unloaded a brilliant kiln load with Birds Nest casseroles, Mama and Baby Bird bowls, 4 cup flower bowls, and goblets. If your mom has the sentimental gene, consider one of the Mama and Baby Bird pieces, either as a Family Bowl, small bowl, or keepsake box. Then sit down with her and look through old photos. Some of the sweetest moments of life live in those early memories! 

I dug out my scrapbooks with Marci this morning with the intention to use one to show the scale of the small bowls. I spent the next hour lost in each one, remembering the adorable little outfits, the cuddled up together times, and the days when I wore size 8. I'm sure there were bad moments, but since these aren't in the scrapbooks, I've forgotten all about them, which is one of the very few advantages of getting old.

 After 3 months of revisions I have the 2013 River Journey dinnerware available for order. This has had a wait list of up to 9 months before, so order ASAP if you are able to. This year I changed the textured bottom from vines to a spiraling swirl. This pattern is deep enough to accent with glaze rather than an oxide, which makes the plates stronger. I also think it brings the drama of water swirl around  rocks. It's quite beautiful!   

I am glazing today so look for Birds Nest casseroles, Pea Pod casseroles and Garlic Sprout casseroles by Saturday. I know they've been sold out for weeks. I will also have a limited amount of poppy bowls in the popular Red and Ice Blue. I make 8-16 of these every week, so please custom order the ones you want when they are sold out. You will get the best selection of the next kiln load.
