If you spend any time in the online maker community, you've probably seen the countless warnings about fake artist accounts. Scammers copy photos, mimic names, and trick people into buying from fraudulent shops. It’s incredibly frustrating to watch, which is why I was so relieved to recently run across a permanent solution directly from Google.

It’s a tool called the official Google Search Profile for Creators, and it acts as a verified anchor at the very top of Google search results so your audience always knows they are interacting with the real you.

Here is the straight-shooting breakdown of who qualifies and exactly how to do it.

The Big Catch: Are You Eligible?

Google doesn't offer this to everyone just yet. To qualify for a Search Profile, you must have a public account with at least 100,000 followers on a single major social media platform (like Instagram, YouTube, or X). If your main audience is on TikTok, that threshold is 300,000 followers.

If you meet that bar, you can lock down your name right now.

Exactly How to Set It Up

You can complete this entire process right from your phone or desktop.

1. Go to the page: While logged into any Google account you own, go directly to the official setup page at profile.google.com/claim.

2. The Google Account rule: As long as you are signed into a Google account, you can start the process. However, a quick tip: if you happen to have a YouTube channel, it is easiest to log into the specific Google account associated with that channel because Google will verify you instantly. Otherwise, just use whichever main business Google account you prefer.

3. Follow the prompts: The system will guide you step-by-step. Select your primary platform (like Instagram) and Google will ask you to briefly log into that platform to verify that you are the actual owner of that 100K+ audience.

4. Fill out your details: Once verified, click Create Profile to open up your dashboard where you can paste in your bio.

5. Add your links: Look carefully for the "Other Links" section in your dashboard. Make absolutely sure you manually add both your official website URL and your newsletter signup link right here. This guarantees they are permanently pinned to the top of your search results.

6. Save: Hit save. It usually takes Google about 24 hours to review the text and take your verified profile live.

The Bottom Line

I don't like hype—unless we are talking about my cat doing something ridiculous in the studio. But locking down your name on the internet isn't about promotion; it's just good security.

Taking five minutes to claim your spot ensures that your hard work stays protected and your audience always finds the real you.
